This guide was created with personal experiences of visiting Rome many times and loving every minute of it. Rome off the beaten path is not for everyone, it is for the curious, the seeker, the adventurer looking for more than just a check list of the most popular sites. When people say a day or two in Rome is enough, I find it a bit sad as some people say you can live ten life times and never see all of Rome, I have to agree with the latter. If you are like me and want to linger gaze, dream and imagine. I invite you to try my personal recommendations for a three day through the back door experience. If you would like to mix it up and do some of the main sites which are of course iconic and a must see if you never have had the chance, then I invite you to mix it up. Alternating off the beaten path suggestions and also seeing perhaps the Sistine Chapel or the Vatican for example then planning accordingly. Here are some of my secret favorite places for a three day experience in Rome! Enjoy!

When traveling to the Eternal city have an idea in mind of some of the main things you’d like this trip to be about. What you want to experience, the pace of the day, more planned activities or wandering around allowing the city to surprise you. I like to have a loose vision before I go, I say to myself how do you want to see Rome this time? There is something for everyone and you can choose the type of memories you want to take with. Be open to what is just around the corner. Don’t be shy and go ahead, pop into that tiny local cafe or that pizza spot that has you peering into the window thinking should I go in? You can not imagine what awaits you when you take that chance. A new encounter with a new food experience, with a person you never knew, who if your lucky might share a secret about Rome. Learning a tip or two with a true real local or just taking in the smells and sounds of a hidden gem is what makes these moments more memorable. I also love supporting local businesses in Rome that are a bit off the beaten path. The streets and alley ways sometimes do not get all the love and attention they so well deserve and maybe even more so. The hidden Rome is right around the corner just dare yourself to travel down the tiny road less traveled and I know it will bring you joy and a renewed love of Rome the ancient wonder of our world! It is no wonder we call her The eternal city! Sending you well wishes and safe travels. Ciao for now, Marie
